Constructed in 1916, the property originally served as pump station for the East Whittier Land and Water Company's irrigation system. The property includes a brick, commercial-style pump house, a craftsman-style caretaker's cottage and ancillary service sheds. The property was surveyed in 2016, and was determined eligible for inclusion in the National and California Registers of Historic Places.
Having stood vacant for a number of years, the pump house required extensive interior and exterior rehabilitation. While the building retains much of its original detailing and historic integrity, the unreinforced masonry building is in need structural stabilization.
Following a thorough assessment of the property's condition and identification of critical character defining features, JANUS is prepared a rehabilitation/adaptive reuse plan for the property. Strict compliance with the Secretary of the Interior Standards ensured that the work carried out, met or exceeded best practices within the industry.
